[NLL MASH-UP] Week 18!

NLL MASH-UP - Week 18

We are in the home stretch for the 2018 NLL season. Still, nothing settled in the EAST where all five teams are still alive!  Three big games this weekend, so things should be more clear after the action.

Last week we looked at the MVP race, this week it’s the ROOKIES turn.  Who are the candidates for ROY?

The #1 pick hasn’t disappointed. Currently he leads all rookies in scoring with 24g, 34a for 58 points. He has shown explosive athleticism in many of his goals. If you want to complain you can say he has shown some inconsistencies, but on balance 2018 has been outstanding season for the lefty.

He was also MLL ROY for his work with the CHESAPEAKE BAYHAWKS last summer, breaking the rookie goal scoring record in the process with 39.

Would fully expect him to be playing for TEAM CANADA at the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS in ISREAL this summer.

On draft night we criticized this pick when the KNIGHTHAWKS chose WITHERS over ZACH CURRIER. However, he is proving to be a great pick up. He is the NLLs top FO man at is 243/365, 66.5%. Has also chipped in with 6g, 5a and 137 LBs.  Also, he is a top defender for the KNIGHTHAWKS.  He should also be in ISREAL this summer.

The aforementioned CURRIER has been as advertised. He is leading the NLL in loose balls with 172, tallying more than 20 ahead of his next competitor, JEREMY THOMPSON.  He also ranks 5th in CT with 28. I still would have taken CURRIER if I had the 2nd pick, but obviously couldn’t go wrong with his summer league teammate from  the PETERBOURGH LAKERS, WITHERS.  Both earned a MANN CUP title last summer.  Also, a strong contender for a TEAM CANADA spot.

Has been moving up the rankings now stands at 23g & 23a. Got it to a bit of a slow start but really has settled in the KNIGHTHAWKS lineup.  Plays for the BROOKLIN REDMEN in MSL in the summer, also played in NCAA FINALS for OHIO STATE last spring.

The. Blackwolf 1st round pick has paid immediate dividends. His stat line is 4g, 8a with 61 LBs. He shows a tremendous upside with his size and athleticism. I wouldn’t look for him to win the prize, but he deserves to be mentioned among the top 5 for his play out the back.

The Picks
Last week another solid 3-2 week bringing our season mark to 43-30, which is .589%.

TORONTO (7-9) at BUFFALO (8-8)

It’s simple, if the ROCK lose they are out of playoff contention. Last week saw the return of TOM SCHREIBER from injury and he did his part with 4g, 1a. But that wasn’t enough as they lost to ROCHESTER 11-14.

The BANDITS dropped a 17-14 game at CALGARY.
Once again the deciding factor for me will be if TORONTO can get some offense out of the back. They were unable to do that last week as EDWARDS, ROGERS, HARRIS and BURNS were goal less.

I see the ROCK outscoring BUFFALO in this spot.  I see a lot of offense coming, but not sure of the BANDIT goaltending.  The loser of this game probably won’t make the postseason.

The BLACKWOLVES came up with a huge road win in COLORADO last weekend, 10-6. They used the formula that has worked best for them throughout the season. Great goaltending from STONE COLD AARON BOLD (36 Saves) and great team defense to go along with the shooting of KEVIN CROWLEY and his league leading 49 goals.

With CROWLEY leading the offense the BLACKWOLVES need a couple more guys to step up.

CALLUM CRAWFORD is starting to get some chemistry with CROWLEY and figures to play a big role in the game. If the left side can scoring a couple of goals,  will go a long way.

COLTON WAKINSON & MARK COCKERTON have been providing some offense from the defensive end.  COCKERTON has impressed since moving back to defense after struggling out the O door.

They hold a 2-0 advantage over ROCHESTER for the season.

From the ROCHESTER point of view they can clinch a playoff berth with a victory. Their destiny for 1st place is in their hands if they win the final two.  JOE RESETARITS is looking to break the record for most points by an AMERICAN for a seasonRecord is 94, set last season by TOM SCHREIBER, - RESETARITS comes into the game with 92.

MATT VINC and his defense have only given up 186 goals -- good for second in the league (COLORADO, 184)

The BLACKWOLVES must stay out of the box and keep the lethal ROCHESTER PP (63.3%) off the floor.
NEW ENGLAND is still alive for the top spot if they win out as well. Who would have thought that two weeks ago?!  They also carry that ugly -48 goal difference.   I still believe in CROWLEY & BOLD and will select NE in a tight defensive battle.

CALGARY (7-9) at VANCOUVER (2-14)

Meaningless game, I got CALGARYVANCOUVER is a disaster area, clearly the worst team in the league

As always thanks for the time!
